When it comes to most things i just do/use what i always have! This morning i thought i should ask what others think or do!

I have a leaky hatch as its cracked and is made of two pieces of wood with middle joint screwed on! I used buttalrubber as a tempory leak stopper, now the the times come to do the job properly!

I have a sheet of 3mm teak faceing its not wide enough to cover the hatch in one piece so i will use three pieces, i intended to use PPU glue becouse i was useing it and its next to my hand!!!White glue would also do as its very water proof once set??I think??

I dont have airodux and dont like epoxy what about a good contact glue?? Or two componant??

What do you advise for glueing teak to oak??

While on the topic a compleat idiot has used a two component glue (Like aerodux) to glue trim to the cabin deck joint and then drilled and screwed every 2 inches just to be sure it leaked really well!!

Ive stopped??the leaks? but cant get the trim off.Chiseling is very difficult as the glue is very hard (could it have been 2 component epoxy??? The fool only knew he had asked for "strong glue" and had to mix 2 parts!!

How can i remove glue and wood without tearing bits out of the cabin and deck??? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

If the glue is dark brown it will be resorcinol, and I don't know of any way of removing that. If the glue line is clear, it may be epoxy. You could try heating the trim with a heat gun to see if you can soften the glue. You will probably char the wood in the process, but it may come apart.

Asto your original question the polyurethane glue should be OK, but clean the teak with acetone to remove the oils on the faying surfaces before applying the glue - whichever glue you use.

Its dark brown!I dident think of useing acertone ill do that and use the ppu!And hardboard clamped over to be sure the venier stays in place!

Id do the same on the cupboards but ive no way to clampdown the venier !!??

Epoxy has no place on a wooden boat!Ill checkthe gloves next time i fill my thirsty landrover at the moment ive got a box of surgical rubber gloves which keep the glue and sealents off the hands.

It doesn't have to be dark brown - it all depends on the additive you use to thicken the resin. If you want it a similar colour to your teak - sand off some teak and use some of the teak dust from your sander bag to thicken the resin.
