I currently have a Tuff Luff foil with cruising sails and racing sails to suit. The boat is a 33 ft cruiser racer.

I secretly would like a furling genoa for when cruising and very short handed, but also want to use the foil of the same system for my existing racing sails when racing.

Is there a sporty furling system that will allow me to get the best of both worlds?

Harken or Harken

On Magic the Furlex is down in the anchor locker which means we can retain out deck sweeping sails but have the benefit of the furler. Okay its a couple of extra kilos at the pointy end but we get the bowmans weight back quicker.

Ofcourse we can only do this because the forestay always went into the locker.

In terms of the foil used, I doubt you can't use the one you have but speak to your rigger.

The major snag is that furlers are fussy about halyard tension; not a problem for cruisers but a pain on a well sailed Rachel Ng boat where halyards and backstays never stay the same for long.

Thanks for initial replys....

I was looking at several j boats at the weekend to see what they did and they were using harken.

Whilst my rig isnt particularly bendy, I do have a backstay tensioner that gives quite alot of adjustment so I am concerned about creating strain on the furling gear.

Any more words of wisdom....
