Which engine?

if one was looking for a sub 40ft powerboat, is there a particular power plant you would go for, or one you would definitely dismiss?

It depends on what you intend to use the boat for, but for normal coastal cruising I would say a pair of D300hp would give you good performance and reasonable fuel economy.

Um. Impossible really, but starter for ten- avoid Mercruisers; VW diesels; Volvo D3; early Volvo D4s; all petrols….

Sorry I should have said, costal cruising mainly with the odd trip to the Jersey / northern France from the Solent
