We are going to run with Raymarine at the helm with a Navionics chart and are looking for a good laptop package (Navionics compatible). Wondering what everyone else uses? Any recommendations?
I use navionics navplanner and it's cumbersome. I have to relearn it every time i use it so avoid using it etc. You have to load your routes onto a card and upload it to the plotter, and working out exactly where to put it in the PC so it appears in the right place on the plotter is a minefield.
If you have an E series you can connect the PC and use it in real time with the(expensive) Raymarine software I believe. I intend to look into this, if it works intuitively I think it would be worth the money.
Agree with the charts, do this anyway, then pop all the key data onto the chart plotter (on the old boat). New one comes with an e80 at the helm so it will have a pc interface.
Still intend to use both - charts and electronic and I am thinking not only about when we do the plotting at home, but having multiple options on the boat - belts and braces and all that.
