Which East coast marina?

I presume you can substantiate this? If not I might politely suggest you withdraw the comment. I will notify the Moderators.

Actually Bob Gibbon I had also thought it was you who made the mistake. It was definitely during your time but maybe I am mistaken and it was somebody else who made that mistake. Because I wasn't certain I never identified who it was.

Way off Topic.

Dune, with a name like that I feel one of your first trips should be to Helgoland. The island next to Helgoland is called Dune and is low and flat and sandy - reminding me of Frank Herbert's novels. Dune is a national park and is not accessible by private boat but is very visible from the sea wall at Helgoland. Helgoland itself is well worth a visit as a duty free German port. Good food, cheap diesel and cheap whisky. Cheap marina - for me [10 metres] 10 euros a night plus 2.75 per person visitor tax. The showers are an eye watering 4 euros however. - but maybe your Jeanneau has an on board shower.

All very interesting, I'm fairly sure if I had I would remember. As things stand I think I can be confident within reasonable doubt it wasn't me, or at least if it was no one has thought to tell me about it until now.

I am sorry you feel this aggrieved but I can clearly see any further discussion on this topic isn't going to get anywhere.

Best regards nonetheless.

Sounds like it would be an interesting trip although I'll be some way off exploring so far a field for a while ;) Thanks for the suggestion though, I shall note it down.

I am not aggrieved at all nor did I want to identify you either. That was your choice. I know many of the posters here and it is rare for me to identify anyone unless it is necessary.

Hi all,

Early next year I'll be the proud owner of a Jeanneau 389. I have been offered berthing (at least for the first season while I have own boat tuition etc..) either at Suffolk Yacht Harbour or Shotley Point. I had planned to go in SYH but am now wondering if I should be considering Shotley? I had originally planned to start down south but I am buying the boat from Clarke & Carter so want to stay close to them for the first season or two.

Thanks in advance.
Simon

Hi Simon,
Is that your smart new boat being commissioned at the end of E pontoon?
If so roll on some decent weather!
John

Hi John,

No, that's not mine unfortunately. Mine is still in production and is due out of the factory doors early March. It can't come soon enough! I do have a berth at SYH all arranged though so hope to see you there

Happy New Year.
Simon

I haven't been to either but I would choose Shotley over it's better position. If your planning a trip to another river your already going to be 1-2hrs up on time. Makes it easier to plan for the tides. Plus if your going to be down to the boat just for the day for cleaning etc it's going to be a more interesting place to be. I love watching the bustle of a harbour.

From SYH it takes about 45 mins depending on tide to be in Harwich harbour before a turn to Shotley. Given that one has to lock out at Shotley there may not be a great deal in it. SYH To Languard about an hour..

I have been to both so can comment from real knowledge. It all depends on what you want and like. Sometimes you have to queue for the lock at Shotley and the road from Ipswich/A14 can be frustrating, but fuel is available 24/7. It is closer to Landguard Point and the open sea. As you state port views! SYH has slightly more services on site, an active racing fleet and Yacht Club and with somewhat easier access from A14. SYH has a nature reserve adjoining-something different to look at! Both a good place to keep your boat, if you want to be towards the mouth of the Stour/Orwell.
