Which DSC ?

Bought the NAVMAN 7200 from LIBS. Mainly because of the keypad on the mike.

One thing I noticed at the show. Staff on stalls seemed reluctant to serve me- more interested in chatting amongst themselves. Could be because I had my 2 yr old son with me though....

Fitted the NAVMAN at the weekend. Works fine. Allows you to rename the channels e.g "Southampton VTS" etc. which is fun. I was surprised to find it has an inline fuse on the 0v power line as well as the 12v one. Why?

If you shop around online you can get the ICOM 421 for 199 squid.

I saw a letter in one of the boaty mags from ICOM's sales manager replying to a criticism in a mag article stating that the MMSI alarm was too quiet. Apparently ICOM have made it quieter for the first 20 secs then it gets louder. Given the number of complaints about loud alarms waking off-watch crew in this forum it seems they have done a good thing !

IMHO, ICOM are also known for reliability and after sales service. It is certainly what I would choose if I didn't have to upgrade the alternator, the batteries, the distribution board, the fuses, the wiring, the nav lights, the anodes , ..............
