Which Dinghy and Outboard

I think perhaps a key separator between posters above is whether they have been/are in the caribbean or not.

In the carib, the water in the anchorage is blue and it's less hot and sweaty than in the marina, and it's free. Hence loads and loads of anchoring. But the marina and shops ashore can be half a mile away or more.

Oh, and i disgaree with that "it's not easy to get a big rib up the beach" - line up at right angles to the beach, set the ob to kick up, full revs and cut it just as ashore, the rib will slide Bondishly up the beach a good ten or twenty yards. Obviously dn't do this in Europe but they will high-five you in the carib. Best if you are ok about buying a new rib...

I wd definitely consider getting davits sorted before you go - you can buy ribs (and secondhand ribs) at dollar prices in carib, and chop in your old dink for those who like their shopping soggy.

I agree it does make a difference as to your cruising area. Currently we have Yam 260 with a Yamaha 4 hp engine. Been fine up to now along the west coast of Europe and the med. When they need replacing would consider a similar size Honda aero deck and a 2-3hp engine as so far I don't use extra power in the med

AB 3.2m RIB and Tohatsu 9.8HP o/b works very well for us, family of 4. Yes, put davits on and an o/b hoist but gets all 4 of us and the shopping back nice and dry and it planes with all of us on board. Fitted dinghy wheels to the transom no probs hauling out onto the shore.

Your boat is your house and the dink is your car so don't skimp on it.
