Which D-ring for clipping safety line in cockpit

I've always used 6mm U bolts with one by the side of the companionway so you can clip on before you come up and one each side of the cockpit.

I would imagine that 6mm is too light for the job. 8mm far better. Folding type d rings have attractions of being flatter when down but must be a bit more difficult to attach to. U bolts should be fine except beware that a 8mm U bolt might be cut down to 6mm at the thread to stop the U pulling into the base. This stress raiser can initiate a failure. olewill

I also dont like the folding type. These require two hands to clip on. A rigid U bolt is much easier to clip into with one hand and there's space for a couple of clips.

I agree with that, but i don't think 6mm are strong enough.

I'll check the diameter, it may be bigger but I'll upsize if required.
