Which coating?

I'm likely to have some oak to coat and also some teak. There's an external domestic door and a frame.... and various other pieces around the boat.

Suggestions include 'Le Tonkinois' and 'Osmo'.

What's to choose between them.....?

Le Tonkinois is a very trad Tung oil varnish.

Epifanes regular is similar but with a slightly more modern formula. This is what twelve coats of it looks like:



If you want fit and forget try Deks Olje 1+ 2

For real long lasting results use Coelan.

I'm betting you're glad you won't need to do that on a Nicholson 55.....

Burn off the varnish and crack on with Cetol Filter 7. My gleaming Filter 7'd bowsprit has lasted 2 Norwegian winters with no deterioration, whereas the complexion of the trad varnish looks like a scrofula victim's rotting cadaver.
