What advice do the panal have for the usual charter boats on offer?

I'm looking at a two week charter for just two of us (honeymoon actually!) In Croatia, or maybe Turkey.

So out of the usual 30'-32's what preferences do people have?

Thanks

Your choices are wide and varied when chartereing ..

1) A bavaria
2) The B'ava ria
3) Bav rias are pretty good
4) Perhaps a Bavaria

Joking aside depends on who, what, where, how, and why and also, how deep are your pockets? If you could and you wanted to you could hire the not so little boat that was visiting Clarence Marina for .... 88k for the week!

You need to consider the size of the cabins, floor, table etc etc if it is your honeymoon and check out sound insulation!!

Will you get time for sailing?????

If you want to go slightly bigger there is a very good German charter company called Suncharter who have Jeanneau yachts. Their smallest boat is the Sun Odyssey 35, which sails very nicely. Their boats are very well maintained and equipped. Don't be put off by the website being mainly in German, all their people speak good English. If you decide to charter out of Marmaris I can give you recommendations for several restaurants in quiet bays, as I doubt your bride will want to cook on honeymoon.

The very reason for the question acutally. Becuase of the number of Bavs on charter, I wondered if I could do better hunting out Elans, Feelings, Dufours, Jeannneaus, Beneteaus etc.

If you look hard you can find the odd Hunter, even Hanse, but what do charteres think, do you just go for the Bav's because it's only two weeks or can better sailing be found by looking harder? And which sail best? Or is all much the same?

After the wedding, cost will be an issue! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif But Bav's don't always seem to be cheapest.

Had a Sun Odyssey 35 on flotilla in Greece this summer, which was a comfortable boat and sailed quite well. There were several smaller SOs on the flotilla and they seemed OK as well.

Have also sailed on a fellow forumite's Oceanis 331 (though not in charter spec) which is a cracking boat. Shame about the owner, but you can't have it all..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Most charter boats are a compromise, so differences will be relatively minor, though I suspect that from a performance point of view, a Benny would be the best of the bunch

Dufour 30 footer ish for our honeymoon
funnily enough cannot remember much about the boat

i did all the work so was happy with small boat as the sheets were much less work. no need for winching etc.

it was nice boat and pointed well.
sunsail usual optional
you have a log speed depth windspeed. 2 only wil work at any time.

I agree with the view of the SO 35, I had one in the Ionian this year and she does sail extremely well. Had an SO 342 last year in the Sporades, but I wouldn't recommend it, she didn't sail nearly as well as her bigger sister.
I always go for a Bene or Jenneau on charter from Sunsail. They've got some good deals.

Happy Hunting! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
