Took the boat - 28 ft. mobo - to Cardiff for a week last summer and used it as a base as SWMBO works in Barry so could catch the train in from Cogan and I'm in Cardiff centre. Had a really good time with some enjoyable evening cruises so we're planning on doing the same some time this month.

I was wondering whether there are any opinions on Penarth, Cardiff Bay or Cardiff as the best place to base ourselves. We were made very welcome last year and would have no problems using the same marina again, just exploring the options.

I would say Cardiff Marina or Penarth Marina would be ideal,Since they opened the new footbridge Cardiff Marina is probably a bit closer to Cogan Station.

Not 100% sure but i think CBYC is full so i would do Cardiff Marina, close to tesco, railway, marine scene,Oyster catcher etc and B-Line cabs are just up the road for longer journies.
Opposite way is Asda, swimming pool, bus stop etc.

Thanks all. Sorry for the delay in responding.

Stayed at CBYC last year and it worked well. The impending arrival of our first grandchild means SWMBO is reluctant to commit so we will have to wait and see when she decides to make her appearance before making a decision whether to travel.

In Cardiff Marina we are presently able to offer:

- A credit back to ensure an annualised rate from contract start in the event a boat stays. E.g if you pay for 3 months at the 3 month rate and then convert to an annual contract in the next season, we will credit back the difference in rate pro-rata for the initial period
- From beginning of September 2010 to December 2010 we will be running an offer with free engine winterisation for all new annual bookings (T&Cs apply). Private message me for more details if of interest.

What are car parking facilities like at Cardiff Marina? Were at Penarth just now but since the car parks were opened to non bertholders by way of pay and display we have often struggled to park.

Car Parking is free and plentiful at Cardiff Marina and is within the secure compound area. In future car parking will remain free even as the area around the current car park develops with the hotel and will ultimately be made available underground also. Hope this helps.

Thanks, will bear in mind at contract renewal time.

If you need to park, then forget CBYC. Parking there is appalling particularly when they run national or regional dinghy competitions.

Tell me about it, I am getting well feed up of these events at CBYC. The state of the club house last weekend was very poor. It is starting to make me think that I may move away from the club next season. Also the costs are rising are a very fast rarte each year. With all these additional events we should see a saving being passed onto the fees.

I thought all the current boatyard land was going to be developed? If so, the present car park will be a building site when the hotel and apartments construction begins (2011?). How is this going to work?

Easily answered. Land to the immediate north of Watkiss will be available with full pedestrian access to the marina and bridge. The current modular building (with laundrette) will be lifted to the car park location...and of course the floating office and toilet / shower facilities will remain in place within the marina infrastructure.

As for the site itself....it will be cleanly and smartly screened and with ground works due to take a short time, will be a relatively clean and quiet affair (think of towers under construction in central London which are well managed and screened).

When complete, Bayscape will have 4 bars, 4 restaurants (including a bar and resturant on 24th floor), new club house fo the marina and facilities. The hotel of course is a 5 star affair run by Wyndham on behalf of Bayscape / Cardiff Marine Group.

The marina itself will be served with underground car parking and this will remain 100% free to all bertholders (now, during construction and afterwards)...as will Wi-Fi etc. There will be quite a lot of new info. on the scheme coming up in the next few weeks. Check out www.bayscape.co.uk and www.cardiffmarina.com

Hope this helps

Where is the Laundrette currently ?

There is a kitchen + washer and dryer facilities available to all bertholders in the one storey grey painted building at the north west corner of the car parking area. Access is from within the secure parking area. There is a code for entry 24 hours a day. This building will be craned to the north of the road when construction of Bayscape starts. Please ask in the marina office if you need access.
