I have a voucher for my new Standard Horizon plotter.

I boat South Coast - Weymouth at the mo.

Which is the best C-Map LOCAL chart to get - I am thinking the:-

L76 EW-M018 English Channel Western

Is probably the best - any other suggestions?

I have C-Map mega wide (or is it just Wide? ) for the whole of Channel. It's got great detail right down to the pontoons in marinas's. I will grab a screen shot of an area of interest if you wish, just PM me.

Blimey, having just been on the c-map website I can see why you need to ask the question. The coverage map is dreadful, it doesn't show L76 or L75 at all, so it seems you have to guess which areas they cover, or try and work it out from the list of admiralty charts referred to.

From a quick scan, it seems that L21 may be best, as it covers Dartmouth to Southampton, although the chart list includes Plymouth Sound and Sparkes in Chichester, so maybe it goes a bit wider. That puts Weymouth in the middle, so covers you whichever way you go. It doesn't cover the other side of the channel though, if you're panning to cruise across. L75 and L76 seem to cover areas either side of Weymouth, so may not be as suitable. It's difficult to tell from the crap coverage map though.

Maybe you could put the voucher towards a full channel card, then you're covered whereever you go?

Thanks - you see my problem!!!!!

I won't be cruising far - only a 21' boat, old engine etc etc.

But I might move from Weymouth to say Poole or something in future years.

What I want is the Local Chart that gives the best coverage in that area.

Yes I can upgrade, but it's £150 to go for the largest chart, and I don't really want to do that so it's getting the right chart in the free options.

I don't even see a number I can call them on my voucher - if anyone knows who to call I'd be grateful.

Cheers

Yep that looks the one - L21

I can't see me cruising any further than that from Weymouth and if I do it might only be Exeter or Poole way which will still be covered.

Thanks Guys

You can go as far as £240 for the Mega wide ones !!

I bought one years ago before Jeppesen bought the company and offered about double the coverage for the same money on updating. Using the annual upgrade through Club Jeppesen I get my MW3 updated for £63.

Not bad value although the North African coast is only of academic interest (as is the Iberian Peninsula, western and central Mediterranean for that matter).
