Morning all
I would like to buy a book for a friend who is new to sailing. We have bought a jag 27 together which is twin fin and based on the Medway. Yes we have a copy of East Coast Rivers. He is likely to be creek crawling for the next season.

He is a good instinctive helmsman but has no experience of anchoring, rules of the road, buoys tides, lights and so in. We will be doing some 'boys trips' where I am sure he will soak up a lot, but as an independent chap he will want to develop his own learning.

A step by step reference guise that was not too dense would be good. Alternatively we could inspire him with some good East Coast yarns. Any ideas?

Thank you

Being an East Coaster you have probably considered Maurice Griffiths.. the classics perhaps:

Little Ships and Shoal Waters.
The Magic of the Swatchways
Ten Small Yachts
etc

His practical books are fun:

Post War Yachting
etc,

To our eye a charming mix of the useful and the arcane. It depends on your friend's cast of mind but I rather like to get old books as a present - it seems more personal.
