As a follow on from the liferaft/dinghy and MOB recovery threads (PBO version ongoing) - if/when the worst happens and you end up with a dead body dangling from your rescue apparatus - how much of it do you need to bring home with you?
Presumably enough for identification to allow issue of death certificate and ease of probate - but how much is that?

rather depends
you may keep slightly more in arct/antartic type coldy water than say in tropics
if the deceased has been a naughty boy in past there may be fingerprint records so you could just pop a few fingers
having said that
i would probably not bother
just note the lat long and leave it at that

be bit of a bugger sawing through the last bit of skin only to slip and puncture your own liferaft!!!!

Eat her? I'd need a bl**dy pressure cooker for my tough old bird! Is your liferaft equipped with a pressure cooker & suitable hob?
Best bet is probably to use her as bait for fishing. Then you can have Sushi, fresh eyeballs (read Dr Bombard's book), livers and dried fish later.
No-one can prove you bumped her off, so suspicion is the only threat. British law is still (mostly!) based on the assumption of innocence - unless, of course (!), you are of Asian appearance or Muslim religion! Or accused of a motoring offence by a policeman.

Oh dear, sorry about that, I didn't mean to go off on a rant. Is it something to do with computers, or keyboards or is it the radiation of the screen?

Even on a daysail we allways carry a large jar of vinegar into which we put the head of any deceased crew on passage.A friendly coroner will send the jar back after the inquest. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I thought it was suppposed to be brandy (as in preserving Nelson). Much more practical as one can drink the brandy if no-one dies. I think I'll get a Rumtopf - just perfect!

thats ridiculous ,wouldnt it put you off eating the fruit from the rumtopf ? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Ich habe in Deutchland gearbeitet.

Thanks Brendan but my vinegar is still fairly fresh, its only a few weeks since we had to behead the foredeck hand /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
