I need some help and suggestions here people. I've had a very large stroke of luck with a cheque from my bank due to the PPI mis-selling calamity and I'm looking for a new boat.

I have £2000 to spend and I want something small enough to sail by myself which won't be a burden on me (18ft - 22ft ideally). I want to sail it along coast and creeks, possibly berthing near Southend or Queenborough, so not too deep a draught. The boat will, however, handle well wherever it's sailed and must accommodate at max, myself and my two teenage boys.SWMBO couldn't give a flying fart about boats!

Preferably with some goodies but not over-endowed with chart-plotters. Must have a back up engine and would prefer an outboard but I may be persuaded otherwise.

I've been looking at Hurley's but have I missed something out there that you would be willing to steer me in the way of?

Thanks in advance.

A good vivacity wouldn't be a bad boat. You can get a **** one for £1k and spend £1k on toys and upgrades. See my blog for lots of photos :)

Your shopping list was just about the same as what I had, except I wanted a boat on a trailer so I can take it home for the winter.

Rather than get fixated on one particular boat, search all the usual sources and local brokers for anything in your price range, then go and have a look what's on offer.

that's how I ended up with the boat I have, because it was on sale in a local broker.

I am sure I replied earlier?

For that sort of money you could pick up Trident 24 if length is not an issue.
You would need to look to find one she would be needing work short on goodies, probably sail away (just).

Vivacity 20
Prelude 19
Trident 24
Jaguar 22
Seal 22
Anderson 22

All added to the list. Thanks. I've already got Jaguar and Anderson but price may be the problem there but never say never.
I am looking in the price range of 2-2.5k and am willing to look at something tidy, dry with a bit of room below and sails well.
Thanks for the new suggestions.

I was going to say ' you won't get an Anderson 22 for anywhere near that ' when I remembered ' Bright Star ', she's an early example for sale on the owners association which I run, see ' for sale ' section of website in my signature below.

A very good boat for silly low money, it all depends on if the location suits to A, see her, B, transport / sail her.

No personal connection.

There are lots of adquate boats, I'd forgotten the Prelude which would be fine, it's all a matter of finding the right boat within range to

A, go to see,

B, transport or sail to your mooring.
