Which Bilge Pump ?

My Jeanneau 36 has a Plastimo manual bilge pump.
I think this is a poor piece of kit. Despite giving it a good clean etc., it is very slow to prime, shifts the water slowly when it does prime, and creaks and groans when being pumped. I find the integral plastic handle awkward and uncomfortable to use. I think it would be pretty useless in an emergency.

Can anyone recommend a manual bilge pump that really works well please? Thanks.

Yes, Whale Gusher was my choice, although I seem to remember that the test done in PBO a couple of years ago gave something else top place. Seems an excellent bit of kit to me. Take a look at a Whale Gusher.

There are various models of the Gusher, but the most common one is the Gusher 10, the yellow die-cast alloy pump. It corrodes badly, preventing the valves from sealing. A much better choice would be an all-plastic pump, such as the Whale Mk5.

It needs to fit in the side of a locker on deck .. will the Mk5 do this?

if you really want an emergency pump you can lean on with real gusto, then the Patay DD 120 is the answer

It takes seconds to access either side of the pumping chanber, spares are simple, and it shifts gallons a minutes, and can be moved on deck to empty a dinghy , or help another boat.
