Here in Haslemere we are currently blessed (?) with plenty of deep snow. Seems deeper than the 14" measured by Chris Robb. Taking a break from the endless task of digging out the drive, I decided to test some anchors for their snow-holding.
The 45lb genuine CQR certainly dug through the snow initially but tended to collapse on one side and then skid with little resistance. And this was with a truly horizontal pull of course- ie fell over flat on my back!
The much lighter Guardian / Fortress was brilliant, landing flat and then flukes digging in each time (my lawn may be well aerated in spring), to full holding.

The Delta is on the boat so unavailable for snow testing....

If I can retrieve my car tomorrow, should I try anchoring it stern-to or from the bonnet?

Trust you were wearing a lifejacket when conducting these trials...............

Which anchor......

A few days ago I watched the Top Gear repeat when Clarkson took a Range Rover to the top of a mountain but got stuck part way up. The rescue guys used a form of anchor that looked like a flat plate with an angled stock and no flukes. Have not seen one properly other than the brief glimpse. Would they be better than a CQR......!!

This seems to fit the bill:

A deadman - that's a luxury I could never afford while ice climbing. But I have abseiled of snow bollards 100s of times, scary at first but as you begin to trust them you make them smaller and smaller!

For the uninitiated, a snow bollard is just what it sounds like. You dig a circular trench in the snow drop a loop of rope over it, ab down, pull rope through, repeat.
