which 9mtr ish cruiser

Hello out there, Going to be upgrading from my strikeliner16+ fishing boat to a used 9 mtr ish cruiser, the one favoured is a antares 9, or the antares 980, not too sure on the fuel economy with the twin 980 but do 2 engines work easier and work out more fuel efficient?, my budget is £45k is it out of the question to look at boats in the £50k+ or are these makes and models sought after and therefore won't reduce price, there are quite a few for sale in france and the uk and they are not selling, is it because they are over priced and expect them to get lower offers ?... quanderies. regards and thanks in advance for any guidance.

Hi rafiki, excuse me if i rambled on but it was the fuel efficiency of the twin engined antares 9 series or the single engined version. regards.

Generally most report remarkably little difference in fuel consumption between one and two engines, but obviously maintenance costs effectively double. Risk of breakdown of both engines reduces substantially. Manoeuvring is simpler with two engines.

If you like the Antares then the Merry Fisher and Botnia Targa style will also be similar general style of boats, even some Nimbus Coupe models.

Any boat is worth what someone is prepared to pay for it and the seller let it go for. You are now at the end of the season where buyers go in and sellers come out. Research the market and try to establish what they actually change hands for, and put away the rose tinted spectacles, so be prepared to walk from anything that doesn't feel right or where the price is too high. If I had a £45k budget I would be looking at boats asking up to £80k, because AP often has little to do with actual value. As you find boats that might suit your requirements you then need to establish a value based upon a close inspection and assessment.

Thank you superheat6k the thing with the antares 9 comes with a flybridge version which i feel could be handy, just had a browse through those you named and they all look well made, as for price i was looking at them 10/15% above my budget but i will go a little higher now you say cheers for the heads up, we can wait for the right one to come along as i am still getting my fix with the strikeliner.

The Rodman 870 would also be worth looking at. I have one and found it to be a great sea boat but to be fair we rarely use the flybridge (although did last weekend)

hi maverick, pretty much set on a antares 9 with working flybridge, maybe a 04 or 05 model, living in the channel islands there are plenty of nasty heads and an advantage point is useful, not really sure which engine though, nanni,yanmar or volvo, suppose they are all pretty good it's just decisions decisions..hope you had a good day fishing.regards.

I think you will find the largest engines fitted in them was the Nanni 320hp which is what I was looking at before deciding on a Rodman with twin diesels. On these smaller fly bridge boats it can be useful for a lookout but they are not really very sociable with room for 2 sitting only

Have you looked at the Quicksilver ones yet? The fit-out is pretty good, heavy duty Boston Whaler bits mostly.

Yes beware there are plenty out there that will gladly part you from your nest egg.

Hi Martin, found out yacht brokers are no better than used car salesmen, can't get a truthful answer and sometimes no answer, found one in France but when i check on broker his name is spread all over the internet in not a good light. one in uk stating a marine engineer was the previous owner i found the said boat and the original pics, what a heap the boat that was, marine engineer uhh, said in the voice of jim royal "my arse", Shame for the owners who put their boat for sale with them and brokers don't get back to potential customers..putting me off and might stick with my strikeliner.
