.....the Marina calls me by the last owners name - each one has a data base with the boats name and last owners address. It would be more reassuring to all of us if they wanted to see the boat's papers before they agreed to change the owners name. More so if they called the Police if the papers couldn't be produced by a "new owner".!
Any other views I wonder?

When I got my boat I lent it to a friend for the first week, the next weekend I had to produce identification + all the papers to prove it was mine before I was able to leave the marina.

Don't know about unpaid fees though

Aah Mr Smith, nice to see you, how are we..? Just a matter of that week here last June, after which you appear to have left at around 03.00 hrs.

That was very generous of you.I'm not sure I'd let my new boat out without me!
Perhaps you were unsure of her seaworthyness and wanted ''crash test dummies''
Was all well or did you get a list of problems and do you feel a 3rd party opinion on your aquisition was helpful??

There was a photo in one of the mags years ago .... showing a guy with an outboard over his shoulder, stepping off a marina berthed boat. Others sat in the cockpits either side of the boat he was leaving ..... The caption asked "Does anyone know this guy ?"
Basically it was implying that theft from boats was not spotted so easily by others in the marinas and that 'isolationist' attitudes tend to prevail in marinas. NOt exactly like the average yacht clubs mooring area, where people actually look at others boats when going past etc. checking things are ok !!!!
