Where\'s the impeller?

My log recently ceased to function and I assume it could be a problem with the impeller (all other instruments work). I've been diving to have a look, but so far not found it due to inadequate diving gear and poor visibility. It's a newish boat so I haven't had her lifted yet.

Does anyone know where an impeller for a log should be placed "in theory"? (In relation to the waterline, keel etc.) Then I could perhaps focus my search a bit.

Thanks,
Per

Try finding it from the inside. You should be able to remove it from the hull for cleaning. (There should be a proper blank to insert in the place of the paddlewheel).

As for its location, Just forward of the keel??

You should be able to withdraw the log from inboard. Most have a cap which looks as if it is off a plastic bottle (of the same diamaeter as the top of the impellor). You undo the impellor mounting, whip it out and put the cap on quick as a flash. First time I let about a gallon of water in. Now I only let about a pint in.

Re: Where\'s the impeller?

Thanks! Seems a lot less wet than going from the outside.

It might well be a bit tricky though, the last time I tried to follow a cable, I ended up with half the interior neatly stapled everywhere. One of the things with these well built swedish boats is that its nearly impossible to find something if you don't know where it is. Still, it's part of the fun!

The impeller is ususally forward of the keel close to the centreline - typically under the floor at the entrance to the V berth.

It's probably in a plastic housing located forward of the keel, either under the floorboards or under the floor in a locker slightly to port or starboard of the centreline.
