Where would be your ideal Med mooring if you had to choose?

also fancy Croatia but have met many yachties in returning to greece and italy who have been there and would not stay. beautiful cruising but greed is driving prices through the roof apparently. they are even charging for anchoring in many places now, I,m told.
 
Sorry, no idea for a 28' boat, but a yearly rate for a 12m x4m is around Euro 10-11K. The marina will quote much less than this but there are none available at their rates. You will normally end up renting an owners berth through the Capitanerie (marina office) but as these are normally all at the summer rate it works out quite expensive. Unfortunately, as the demand is high everyone is on the make!

FWIW, I think Croatia ticks most of the boxes except maybe flights but the mooring costs are definitely lower than the Balearics at least for now. Again FWIW, there's a lot of marina/development investment going into Montenegro and that is supposed to be a beautiful cruising area but I think it will be a good few years before this area can hope to rival the Balearics/Sof for boating
Another factor in favour of Balearics/SoF is generally mild winters which makes winter boating possible. The Adriatic, especially in the north gets pretty cold in winter
I'm going thru the same thought process and I've concluded that the Balearics ticks most if not all of the boxes but I might have to move eventually if I get chucked out of Club de Mar
 
I agree with the Croatia theory, I did a cruise there some years ago now for about 9 days. We started at Porto Roz in Slovenia and worked our way down through the Dalmation Islands. stunningly beautiful scenery and friendly people, not what I was expecting at all!
Porto Roz is an excellent marina and not far from Trieste airport which is served well by Ryan Air.
 
To get a berth in Baie des Anges, or any other good marina in Sof, you either need to be very persistent and lucky, or use an agent and pay a back-hander, which gets split between the berth owner, the capitainerie, and the agent themselves. I think the going rate is about 50% on top of the published rates, or sometime a one off fee. I have a contact that can usually arrange this if you wanted it, but it makes for mighty expensive boating ..
 
In my humble opinion, if you were going to go for South France, Baie des Anges is not the answer. It is mainly residential appartments and not the most accessible. Antibes, Port Camille Rayon, (Golfe-Juan) and St Laurent du var will always be more suitable. Don't forget the little marina tucked within walking distance of Antibes, Port Gallice in Juan-les-pins. (This is my all time favorite!)
There are also decent options just across the border in Italy, try Port Sole in San Remo and the new Varazze marina complex near Savona, served by Genoa airport and Ryanair, it is a beauty too.
 
OD, I think he may have meant Baie des Anges the bay, not the actual port called BdA in Villeneuve Loubet? Agree your comments though, BdA marina isn't nice. Vauban (specifically, Mole Sud!) is the nicest and Camille Rayon nice enough though only for a small boat or a north side superyacht (cos long walk to the southside 18m-25m berths). I'd definitely agree Gallice is very nice too, and good access to sunset beach bars. Bit of a long walk to Antibes though! Imho SLDV is a smelly dump and I would regard it as absolute last resort :-)

San Remo is nice but has lousy aeroplane access which might matter to some folk

Marina Baie des Anges is not the most pleasant marina on this coast, but it is easy from the airport! Antibes and beyond will involve a lot of sitting in traffic during the holiday period. They have a variety of restaurants, a supermarket, and an excellent marine engineer who speaks good English. Once you're on the boat, you can go where you like.

I run a Training Centre, Brokerage and Charter business from Mahon Menorca. In my opinion it's about as good as it gets. 250 small bays ( Callas ) around a small Island. Airport 10 mins from port and flights 2 hrs Gatwick. We have a new marina proposed for 2010 and a change of hands with the curent Club Maritimo, creating about another 50 berths.
