Want to get Tristan lifted out sometime this winter, and probably out for a month or so to enable me to give her a proper scrub, antifoul and polishing etc

Based in Temple anyone know the costs of lift out store and lift in for that kind of thing and what kind of cost. Harleyford would be closest but yet to find out cost and told maybe more expensive than if I run her down to windsor ?

Any help appreciated guys

Nick

The boat behind me did the exact same thing at Bushnells (Shiplake) a while ago. Lift out power wash and hull blacking.

He said they were very helpful and he did some of the work himself. The price was "very reasonable".

Val Wyatt further downstream has facilities, but their hard standing is always "busy".

I plan on coming out at Harleyford, I didnt think the pricing for the lift was that bad? (Certainly way cheaper than Bray)

Ah, but, moorers get a discounted rate (I assume).
Still there'd be plenty of room as fewer boats get lifted out in the winter nowadays. My other two suggestions certainly have less space.

Make good use of it while you may; it's likely to get smaller in the future...

Just remembered

With the lock closures

Hurley 1 November 2010 – 28 February 2011 ?
Replacing the lock gates and refurbishing the lock chamber

Temple 1 November 2010 to 18 December 2010 ?
Re-sheeting the lock gates and re-fixing anchor plates

It will be March before I can get anywhere other than between the locks anyway

Guess I have plenty of time to research :-)

I know it's a bit out of your way, but No Regrets (Birchwood version) was beautifully polished at Bray!

That old yellow hull looked literally like new afterwards!

Trouble is, It took me weeks on the topsides to look like I hadn't nicked a new one...

You could try the Caversham Lake facilities - they have a heavy lift gantry crane and other facilities and will lift, clean, prime and anti-foul/black for £28/foot inclusive of VAT. I don't know how that compares with other places. They can also arrange other work on underwater fittings etc if necessary.

The facilities are accessed via the same entrance as the Thames & Kennett Marina at Caversham, but are separate from them (I think they may be EA-owned). Contact is Mike Butcher on 07860 191981.

I guess the lock closures may rule this out, but it may be worth a thought at other times.

In fairness, if you're not leaving her on the hard for Winter, best leave it until a few days before you next intend using her (Spring 2011) isn't it?

Or she'll look just the same by then anyway!
