Where to start?

Newbie starting out with plans to purchase a boat after training & studies. Based on River Crouch we plan mostly coastal trips but want to cruise the east coast rivers especially the Broads and Thames ideally as far up as feasible. Dimensions to achieve this in a semi displacement cruiser is critical in my choice of boat. Can anyone help with this especially draught and air draught limits.
At the moment I am leaning to a twin 100/130 hp deisel non turbo shaft drive.All year use would need heating and hot water, etc. Engine size, ease of maintanance, shaft, stern all in the mix at moment. Some marinas I am looking at locally are restricted +/- 2hrs MLWN with mud.
Any advice on used makes to look for much appreciated with a approximate budget £30-40,000

About 8 to 9 mtr. Retired couple with occasional visitors sleeping, friends or grandchildren.

Yeah, a Broom European, Continental or Ocean 37 would fit that budget pretty well. Bit bigger than you’re looking for but very comfortable accommodation and seagoing capability.

Ok, then I’d look at a number of different makes. I had a Channel Islands 32 for many years, excellent boat with most well within your budget. Then there’s the Aqua Star range, again well built with many different layouts. And, if you can find one, there’s Aquabelles. I’d also take a look at the Nimbus range, excellent Scandinavian quality and very comfortable.
