Removed my props yesterday and found damage to the hub and the prop repair people say it is beyond repair. So I haven't bought new props for sometime (well about 7years) and wonder where is the best place is to get them at reasonable prices.

Also I had a look at Coastel Ride website and they seem to do good prices for a ranges of options, are there any advantages/disadvantages of:

- New Aftermarket Duoprops (not sure what aftermarket means)
- Second Hand Props
- Refurbish Props
- and of course Volvo's orginals

After a Set of A6 Duoprops.

Thanks for any advice given.

Coastal Rides after market props might be the PowerTech props, imported from the USA I think.
I bought a couple of sets of PowerTech B6's from them last year. They perform as good as the volvo props, however there was no paint left on them after one season.

Where to purchase Duoprops

I have just fitted a set of A6 Power Tech Duo props purchased from Paul at Coastal Rides.

The boat was put back in the water last week, and had my first run out yesterday. They appear fine, boat gets up on the plane nice and quickly now.
I can't comment on the durability as they are brand new, I hope the paint stays on. They certainly looked well made, and fitted without any problems.

Service from Coastal Rides was first class, props were delivered promptly and
nicely packaged.

I too have a set of Power Techs that I have just been cleaning. after one season they still have most of the paint on. Bought them from Propeller Solutions in Sturminster Marshall (same team as was at Cobb's Quay in Poole The seem a bit more robust than the Volvos

I would give Keyparts a call. Always found there prices reasonable and the parts arrive the next day - well up to now they have.

I got a set of A6 Power Tech Duo Props from coastal rides early last year and they are great, needed another set for the other side a few months later but they were out of stock but they offered to send genuine new Volvo at the same price, they arrived and were not new and had been reconditioned, rang them spoke to a cockney woman who knew everything and insisted they were new and unused genuine volvo, when I eventually managed to get a word in she said all new Volvo props had flaky paint and burr marks and they wouldn't even pay for the return postage, Power tech props have been good just buy them elsewhere.
Just my own personal experiance.

Regularly see them on flea-bay at a reasonable price, i believe coastal rides advertises on there as well. Dont think your going to beat coastal rides price of £300 though.

We have Powertech B4 from Costal Rides, props have been on 15 months, Performance is fine, paint nearly all off.

How much difference does the paint make, are they worth repainting or if I leave them bare will they just fizz away?

I've painted the props with an etching primer and 2 coats of black hammerite smooth. I don't expect the paint will last the season, but while the boat is in the yard and you've got nicely painted sterndrives and polished topsides, unsightly props would seem to spoil the job.

I believe forumite Tico has successfully painted his props using two part epoxy paint, but think you need compressor and spray gun kit to use it.

Thats the worse thing you could do is to expose the bare aluminium. Based on bitter experience, when the paint comes off you end up with pitted props and you end up buying new ones. If the paint comes off mid season I wouldn't worry but paint them when you do your annual maintenance. I have learnt at least two coats of epoxy with a topcoat of anti-fouling, although the anti-fouling usually comes off the epoxy remains and makes it easy to clean a smooth surface.

yup... 2 pack epoxy specially made to be chemical resistant. When finished looks and feels like a very hard plastic coat that is slightly flexible to allow the props to flex a touch.

Works a treat but but does need a compressor and spray setup (including proper face/breathing protection) lasts 2 years no problems.

Hi

The only way to keep your props in a good condition paint wise is first, remove all old paint, etch prime, this is a chemical etch not a paint but is very important. Then apply the primer, as already mention in other posts it has to be 2 part type, then apply the top coat of 2 part paint within the specified time of appling the primer, allow to cure. This works for me and to give you an idea if it works I had the same props on my Sunseeker for 18 years and I am based in Poole, not known for the best place for props - mention no names!!

Hope this is of some help.
