Personally, I would look Cowes/Gurnard/Yarmouth, avoiding Ryde, Freshwater & Sandown. Plenty of choice though.

I am not sure if this is relevant to your question but clearly ££££££££ matters at the moment.
I was in Lymington at the beginning of the summer and I met a bloke on the pontoon there. He told me that he has a house in Yarmouth and moors his boat in the harbour somewhere. He then told me that he moved out of his house in the summer and rented it out to holiday makers. And he lived on his boat for the summer, cruising wherever he pleased.
The income from the house contributed hansomely to his budget to the extent that it covered all his boat running costs for the whole year. And he lived on his pension for the rest of the time.
Sounded great to me.
My point is that maybe on the IOW, depending what you buy, you may have income opportunities that the rest of us don't have. And you can spend more time on the boat!

Don't know about suffragettes, but they seem to be more and more like old women - can't find a decent crim' anywhere these days...
Incidentally HMP Parkhurst dropped off into history nearly 2 years ago and no longer exists - it's buildings are now just a part of the new entity of "HMP Isle of Wight".

While you are waiting/thinking, put your name down for a Cowes Harbour Commission mooring. Pontoons up the river are not that expensive and the waiting list is certainly dynamic.
