Where to keep a yacht for a warmer climate

My wife is keen to explore places to keep our 34ft sailing yacht during the summer months for a couple of seasons. The criteria is as follows

Warmer climate
Able to Fly from Exeter (flyby) flight time 1-2 hours max
Marina close to airport ie 15 mins transfer time
Nice cruising waters (beaches etc) for 2 young children


Any thoughts great appreciated

Just over the two hour flight criteria is Faro in Portugal, marina may be slightly more than 15 minutes away, good cruising area, plenty of beaches, definitely warmer. Added advantage worth considering would be then to take the boat to the Canaries for the winter and continue the warmer climate sailing whilst it is freezing at home then back to the algarve for the following summer.

It sounds like Cornwall would be perfect! Otherwise perhaps the Algarve...

The only place I can think of satisfying this criteria is Gibraltar!

Any other airport, particularly in the summer, and you will be lucky to reach the airport perimeter in 15 mins.

Port Medoc, a simple train journey from Bordeaux, more than 15 minutes, but most places will be.

I know; I was simply pointing out the expectation of getting from an airport to a marina in 15 minutes is ambitious, to say the least.

Corfu would meet that criterion (just) - although not the 2 hours from Exeter.

No, I only stopped there one night on my way up the coast. It's a fishing port with a good yacht club as well, friendly, entrance navigable in all eathers, unlike a lot of harbours on the Spanish coast and close to Tabarca and with plenty of other places in easy distance - Ibiza, Formentera.

I wonder why its empty? Isn't there an issue with local taxation if you keep a boat in Spain for more than a few months?

Airports near the sea served by flybe out of Exeter are :

Alicante, Barcelona, Faro, Malaga, Nice and Palma Mallorca.

You should have a look on Google Erth for marinas near those.

However none will be cheap near airports nor may they be available on a permanent basis.

Lots of extra marina capcity built during the boom years. Now 27 percent unemployment and 30 percent of small businesses have gone bust. There are berths available in every port on the East coast.

Right now it is warmer than in Greece. And that happens quite a lot in Spring and early summer.

When I first bought my boat it was based at Hyères, just at the end of the runway. There were the usual apocryphal tales of planes hitting masts.

I did my YM theory course with someone who had a boat in Majorca or Menorca and he reckoned it was doable for a weekend and relatively cheap to keep there. This was before the great crash so it might be even better know.
