Where to In Med for extended cruising

The Aegean sea has by far more choices than the Ionian. You can spend years sailing and discovering around the Aegean sea the Greek mainland and the myriad of islands. The problem with the Aegean is the Meltemis which start in mid/late July and last for four weeks; but the wind is predictable as it blows hard from midday to about early evening.

I am lucky enough to be able to take a bit of a sabbatical from my work and have 7 weeks holidays this summer. Any time that we have taken sailing holidays in the med (particularly Greece I have seen the attraction of living aboard for an extended time so my plan is to take 7 weeks on a boat from June this year. It will be myself, wife and two teenage boys (14 and 16). My question is where should we go?

France/Monaco/Italy
Spain/France
Balearics
Sardinia
Greek Ionian
Croatia

Any advice and experience from members much appreciated.

regards

David
There are of course so many delightful places to visit in all on your list.
For myself Greece is No. 1. for just about everything. One of my favourites is to cruise the inland sea from Missolonghi (with memories of Byron who spent time there) then under the Bridge at Patras to the Gulf of Corinth. The Northern coast has many fascinating harbours, starting with Nafpaktos, small old Roman walled entrance, very lively town, a steep climb up to the castle. Was lucky enough to moor stern to the town steps as when I arrived a space became available. Gets busy so earlier in the season best.
Then on to Trizonia, an island with lovely beaches, a good marina shops etc. Further along is Galadixi, another of my all time favourites. Delphi, one of the worlds most visited places is a bus ride away. Then if you wish Corinth itself, history abounds here in aplenty as does so much of Greece. the Corinth canal awaits, warning it is probably the most expensive 5 miles of waterway anywhere, but worth every yard traveled and euro spent, pay at the other end. Then into the Saronic Gulf and the Aegean, from where in any direction you are spoilt for choice.
I would add that Rod Heikels guide I found invaluable.
Enjoy wherever you go.

The Ionian without a doubt, prices are reasonable, the weather is favourable, the locals are friendly and welcoming, there is plenty to do and see, you have varied scenery and plenty of anchorages should you wish for a quiet night, and most of all, your wallet will not be attempted to be emptied at every port you call into!
