Hi all
I was going to bring the boat back to the UK this May from Med Spain but the virus has stopped that i think. My second thoughts were to have the boat lifted for several months later this year and bring her back next year. Somewhere with reasonable prices and be able to stay onboard when i wanted to. What are the suggestions please.

I took my boat out in Almerimar for a short period. I can't believe some people spend the winter there. It looks like a holiday resort that last had its heyday about 30 years ago with facilities to match. Tourist tapas on the menus, and a little Britain/Brits abroad feel. There is also absolutely nothing around, and it's often extrememly windy.

Almerimar marine does good work though, as does Arcglow fabrication and welding. The two chandliers are decent if not extensive, but are also expensive. It's cheaper to order from SVB, WaveInn or similar.

I'd say you wouldn't really want to spend more than two weeks there, and best to have all the equipment and materials that you need in advance.

I have been in Almerimar dozens of times in the last 15 years, and with luck will buy a retirement place there... within a bus ride there are fantastic hills for walking...within an hour and a halfs drive there is skiing in the winter there are many Brits but also many non Brits.. plenty of ok restaurants and excellent bus connections to the rest of Spain including Gibraltar and Madrid (via Ejido)

I kept my boat there for a season in 2006 and found it ideal... yes the chandlers can be expensive but the yard is good for DIY work. Last summer I met a swiss couple in Ireland that had spent two years refurbishing their steel yacht in the yard and were also in love with the place...

I agree it is often very windy... but also usually dry and beautifully bright...
