Anybody out there know of a cheap place to get a short haul out? I only want to change the (must change the) anodes and fit a new Prop. Looking at about 400+ euro here at Portimao, and thats just hanging in the slings while I do the work!

There must be somewhere cheaper nearby, and someone knows where it is?

Your help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

There is a wall on the other side from you, at Ferragudo, I am almost sure a friend dried out there, he was certainly on the bottom, that may be an option.
Otherwise, the best we found was Isla Cannela, just into Spain. But was told later!, typical, El Rompido, a German Guy, Michael has a yard that was much cheaper again. Hope thats a start, Bill.

It was beside some steps at the entrance to the creek on the stbd, South side. The Irish guy I saw there had 48ish ftr. he had the engine out for repair, with your draft, you may get your feet wet, but it may well be possible to do your job there, Good Luck, Bill.

I'm on the hard at Faro, a good deal cheaper than any marina on the Algarve, a begger to get into (you need a high tide and Senor Bruce comes out in his motor launch to guide you in, but it is worth talking to him. His number is portugal +35 1289 822506 or mobile +35 1919317171 The other alternative is in Villamoura, I've heard the boat yard lets you dry out against a wall there. You can also dry out against piles at Sopromars yard in Lagos.

I was down at Smir a few weeks back. I heard it was pretty cheap there! The marina's very quiet but a few boats on the hard and very accoommodating!

The telephone numbers will probably be OK, if you dial them from outside of Portugal, but the countrycode for Portugal is 351 and not 35. This means that calling the numbers inside Portugal one should omit the "1" and the first number should be 289 822506 and the second 919317171.

I actually went to see Bruce, nice guy, but he could not lift us at the time, 5yrs ago though. We were 44ft, 20t, but a real helpful chap.

Hi - We have same problem. We really need a lift because the boat falls backwards onto rudder if lent against a wall. If you come up with an answer could you let us know. Probably see you next week.

I agree that Bruce's yard is great. Also a really nice guy. we easily got there, following Bruce in his launch doing a grandmothers footsteps routine. We draw 2mtrs. Needed ithink 3 days eaither side of springs. He was trying to dredge the entrance channel but came against the national park. Maybe he has it sorted by now.

Another good option is just into Spain at Isla Cristina. They have a travel lift system there and not as expensive as Portimao, and l'm sure they would leave you in the slings for a few hours if that is all you need. One chap in the office speaks very good english but the girls don't so you'll have try a bit of spanish. Very helpful yard.

I hope the service at Isla Cristina has improved as you describe, they were terrible in our experience, to the extent we became involved in a dispute, and won! They insisted we enter the travel lift, with a cross tide, resulting in damage to our boat, because they had insufficient manpower to manage the ropes. They then wanted to charge for extra days ashore spent repairing that damage. Isla Cannela had a good reputation, but at the time they could not handle our boat, too big, no problem now I believe.
N.B. If you do use Isla Cristina, insist you go into the travel lift at slack water, and watch for passing fishing boat creating a troublesome wash! Bill.
