Where to go?

Kev
That lot will babble on about anything.
So ok you live round the corner from me.
And thats not good news I'm afraid.
Forget fleetwood you can only get in or out for about an hour each tide and no where to go and horrid.
Your choices are. Windermere. (no speed limit just yet.) Or
Pwhelli (or however they spell it these days) But probably full.
Pwehelli is probabley the best place within easy driving and access all tides so you can come and go at any time and for a smallish boat plenty of places to visit. Like Portmadock, Abersock, St tudwalls Isles, Bardsey Isle, Shell Isle.
Wicklow in Ireland is 65 miles from Pwhelli if thats not to far and Dublin about 90.
I had two boats there for about five years. The first one on a trailer.
Lock Lomond is Ok for a bit with a trailer.
Other than that Troon or Largs in Scotland are exelent for smaller boats with loads of scenery and short hops to the islands for a night or two.
For me the choice is Cornwall with West Scotland as a close second. In between its errr. not as good but look at Pwhelli.

Arthur you seem to be enjoying life over there.

We had a black labrador a few years back, she came from Foxdown Terrace!! (can't remember which number).

If you come back to visit give me a shout and maybe we could meet up.

Hafan Pwllheli Marina may well be very nice but the idea is to try to find some where I can get to in about an hour or there abouts. Conwy has been deemed "too far" by the other half at about 1 3/4 hrs. I reckon Pwllheli will take about 2 1/4 which is too far.

We mainly want to use the boat at weekends so a long journey takes too much out of 2 days and makes Windermere or South Scotlnd a bit too far.

I live in a place called Shaw which is at M62 J21 where are you, where is "round the corner"?

Kev

KevL welcome to forum. I do not know the size of the bayliner model you mention so not sure if trailerable, but I guess it is. If so...

windermere is beautiful as others have mentioned. I used to go there most weekends, years ago. You have to pay a fee and get a massive LDSPB sticker and reg number

For a quick inland blast launch it on the marine lake southport or the lake at west kirkby, just north of seaforth docks on the A565 coming north out of liverpool. You have to just drive round in circles, a bit boring. Shopping good in Southport though (Lord Street)

N Wales and liverpool can be nice

There's a kind of marina on the ribble near Tarleton. Restricted by tide. My brother has used it, I can get more details if you want

One more tip. You have to do this by noon today else the offer expires. You could say you are called Duncan Light, paint MV2 on back of your boat, raz down to Chichester this saturday pm, twiz the radar backwards for authenticity, and some daft git will fill your boat and car and jerrycans with free petrol!

Good luck. Also there's a book called "Where to launch your boat" or something, used to be publ by Link House, listing all slipways around the UK

Life's not bad over here.
We never had a Labrador, but we had three cats which caused me such severe asthma that I could barely walk and literally used to go to school one day and stay home two, because I couldn't walk to the bus stop in Mantle St. I took up cycling when I was about 14 and managed to ride many thousands of miles in the West Country and beyond. Doctor told my parents the cats didn't cause the asthma and it wasn't until I was 23 that it was proven that they did! Now I have COPD, but am not too bothered by it yet. Modern medicines work wonders. I keep away from cats, though.
Next time I get to Welli'ton, I'll let you know. It'll probably be in early 2002. Now is the time to be here - daytime temps and humidiy have dropped and we have clear blue skies. Now I can work on my boat without dissolving in my own perspiration. I think I'll finish renewing cooling water hoses today after I've done a bike ride up and down Longboat Key. Take a look at http://www.longboatkeymoorings.com/ to see where our boat is. We live 2 min walk away.

Byron - I sympathise with the bridge problem. We have a lot on the ICW, but fortunately, our boat rarely requires one to be opened.
No, I don't know a Mick Conners. Where does he work? HP had 105,000 employess when I retired. That was reduced when Agilent, the measurement bit, of which I would have been a part, split off a couple years ago. Now they are getting their numbers up again by acquiring Compaq. I'm glad I exercised my HP stock options when I did, otherwise I might have been bagging groceries at the local Publix supermarket now.

I'm a rag and stick man but I will try, and I wouldn't recognise a Bayliner if one ran into me.

Liverpool nice marina - roughly half tide access - you can have short trips on the Mersey with access to IOM -75 miles - and N. Wales.

Preston - Access about 15 miles up River Ribble - Access to river from sea looks a bit iffy I never had the nerve to try it with 6ft draft but should be reasonable in a motor boat.

Fleetwood always looks a bit down at heel to me - Access is about half tide and only a few minutes from sea. Morecambe bay appears to have more sand than water but again my view is based on 6ft draft. IOM Cumbria relatively close.

Whitehaven - Access nearly 24 hours but avoid low water springs- New marina with nice berths but limited facilities -temp shower blocks last time I was there (1999) Few minutes walk to town centre (if its worth the trouble but there is a good curry house) again IOM SW Scotland & N Ireland available.

Maryport small marina with reasonable facilities. Much better since taken over by MDC - Half tide access via flap gate. 15 minutes walk from town (again questionable if worth effort) No curry house but decent Chinese take away - IOM SW Scotland N Ireland all available

I suspect most of the people on here are too busy composing postings and polishing their cutlery to actually take their boats out of the marina.

Best of luck

Re:No Where To Go?

Well Kev I live in Rosendale.
I'm afraid I'm a bit stuck for advise.
Have you tried the Rochdale canal.
That should be close enough and I hear they've not got radar yet so you should be ok.

Flak invited - Essex girl admission

And what's wrong with being in this forum and supporting West Ham then Byron :o)

Yes, I am an Essex girl, and of course I have claret & blue blood, but that doesn't mean that I don't have a chiller full of Pol Roger!

Okay, go on, you can all have a pot shot.....

Tracey

PS Kim - having seen the goings on recently, just for clarity, I am playfully ribbing him, not having a dig! ;o)
