Where to go this weekend...

Want to take the boat for her first proper trip this weekend, out of Langstone, but do I turn to port, starboard or go straight on once I leave the harbour entrance?
I guess Ryde will be full, East Head will be chock ablock and Bembridge up to the hilt. Assuming that Newtown will be out of bounds too?
Any other suggestions within a 3 or 4 hour sail from Langstone where it might be fairly quiet. Can be self sufficient for a few days so anchoring somewhere would be OK, but would depend on wind direction, weather and tides.
Or stay at home and do the work on the patio (again!!)

you could try the Folly, up the river Medina from Cowes; if you have a boat drawing less than 3' the western side is best bet, less likely to get rafted on by some humuongous boat.

Near there is Island Harbour, a lovely marina, peaceful & secluded but rather 1960's facilities ! Great walks though, one can walk to Cowes past Whippingham church and get the Sally water Taxi back; VHF 06, 07831 331717.

The tides usually work out that a high enough water to lock out of Island Harbour is only useful if going westwards, so one may have to reposition a day early; either to the Folly pontoons or one can anchor just off south of there but check the regulations, - and depth - I don't have them to hand .

Poole is less than 50nM - a Friday over-nighter
or Friday up to Newtown, Lymington or Yarmouth then Saturday morning tide to Poole and up to Wareham
or give Poole a miss and push onto Lulworth (about 35nM).
If the weather's good, and it's looking that way, how about St Vaast? (about 77nM) (Gate opens about 18:40 to midnight Sat)

At the moment it's looking like an easterly out on Friday/Saturday and a westerly back on Monday/Tuesday. So for us it will probably be Newtown, Poole (Pottery Pier), Poole (Shipstal Point), Hurst, Home.
Even in a small boat you should be OK to get down to Hurst for a couple of days. Anchor just inside Beaulieu river first night out and just south of the Folly (starboard side) on the way back. Time the tides right and it should all be possible within 4 hour stints.

But my little Westerly Pageant isn't the fastest thing in the Solent!! Took us nearly 4 Hrs to get to Newtown Creek last year!!
And consider it's the first proper sail of the year, so don't want to freak Mrs W out so early in the year. We had enough problems last July and don't want to repeat that again.
Thanks for suggestions though, we are having a week in July again this year so hope to go further afield then.

4hrs is ok... in my little boat it took me that to get from the West Pole to the entrance of Portsmouth Harbour yesterday....

Have you considered anchoring in Priory Bay just round the corner from Bembridge?? Another alternative I keep meaning to try is Seaview Yacht Club who have visitors moorings and a boat service to shore...

I'm hoping to have a sail down to Newtown Saturday and meeting friends from Keyhaven there as a halfway meet. We'll probably anchor outside Newtown, we'll be in deeper water than they need.
Going down with the first of the ebb from Hamble should get us there by about 1130 or so and can then pick up the first of the flood back. My friends may have a bit of a struggle to get back to Keyhaven leaving any later than 1600 especially on the extra Spring flood that day, however a favourable Easterly is forecast so their Pageant should do it OK.
