Where to go from Denia?

We have a seven day excursion from Denia in two weeks time on board a 47.7. Any recommendations as to where best to go? Out to Ibiza has been suggested. Best places to drop the hook and practise gluttony ashore?

Ibiza is the obvious place - its a reasonable trip - perhaps 7 hours in that boat, you can anchor everywhere and there are many many fine places to eat and enjoy and its nicely free of youths and clubbers until late May. San Antoni makes a good first stop - La Cantina on the waterfront makes a good first, second and third meal :) Sunsets are incredible, you can scoot round to some fantastic anchorages like Bineras and pop down in 3 hours or so to Formentera where places like Cala Saona look to all the world like the Bahamas - turquoise water, white sand and shelter from anything but the west sector. Then its a straight shot back to the mainland
 
Or as only a week along the coast to Javier, Moraira, Calpe and Altea..all depends on weather, but whichever way you go you're sure to enjoy it.
 
3 choices;
1. Out to the Islands and if you like it stay all week.

2. Out to the Islands and if you decide not to stay then sail to a port of your choice south of Denia and then port hop to Denia.

3. Port hop south anchoring/marinas and then back using different marinas.

All the marinas are good but do check visitor rates. On the wall in Moraira is eyewatering and if non Spanish registered there may be G5 tax as well.

Put Greenwich and Villajoyosa marinas on your list.

Coastal anchoring - south and north side of Javea bay depending on wind direction.
Just south of Javea is Porticholl island - slip in behind for a beautiful anchorage.

All good ideas, Porticholl is especially beautiful, the large bay to the south of it also has a restaurant if you did want to go ashore. In Moraira you can also also anchor off La Portet, just to the North of the marina.
You can also try and get into Javea Marina, but it would be wise to check ahead of time to make sure there is space.

Personally, unless Villajoyosa has changed markedly since 2009/10 I'd stay away. We found the staff aggressive, unhelpful and fitted with a jobsworth attitude. Oh, and it was comparatively expensive. We got stuck there by the weather for a few days and thought it quite the worst marina from the service point of view that we'd encountered on our way to Barcelona.

As an example, the place was no more than two thirds full but they wouldn't let us book more than one night at a time. We had to go to the office every morning, plead to be allowed to stay another day (we couldn't have left even though we wanted to as the winds had us pinned into the place) and then pay in advance. Really not a nice place to be. May have changed since then of course but at the time, not good.

Bit early for swimming without a wet suit, but inshore of the island is a great place for snorkelling.
If you do anchor be sure to take the dinghy into the huge cave under the lighthouse at Cap de la Nau, its a very narrow entrance but opens up into a huge cavern with deep water.

Have just returned from a trip North of the border (past Watford) and stopped at a motorway service station for their "Full English" breakfast. Very true description. This Englishman has now felt full for 36 hours.....
So thanks TK for the Gibraltar suggestion but it has been rejected and binned.

Good to know, heading there for a few days in late April! I'd recommend the Marminor as somewhere not to miss if heading South beyond Alicante's beautiful city centre Marina. There's also free anchorage off the Salt Quay in Torrevieja harbour and a fabulous anchorage outside the Harbour at Tabarca Island. That's the extent of my cruising so far but I intend to get over to Ibiza and spend a few weeks exploring the bays there this year as it looks like a sailors paradise on the blogs!
