As well as the standard stick-on boat name we want a custom image on the decal - is there a forumite who does decals? Or any recommendations for a company?

Thanks

What a great website. Quite a complicated preview tool and it even works on an iPad (all be it that the typeface fonts don't scroll down), but a chance to had a little play around and see what you fancy.

We actually have our own vinyl cutting machine but with limited software. Surprising how often you use it in the course of a year. Unable to produce images onto vinyl I'm afraid though.

Henry :)

You don't necessarily have to go to a "Boat lettering" supplier.

Just go to your local signage supplier (use yell.com or local yellow pages) and you'll more than likely find they can produce whatever you want, at a more reasonable "non boat" cost.

Self adhesive sign vinyl is the same whoever you buy it from, and signage suppliers are used to producing a much more varied portfolio than "specialist boat names" suppliers.

Worth a try at least..

Don't they use different grades of vinyl?

There are different grades of vinyl available, but if you tell the supplier the life expectancy you want (and / or the application) they'll give you the choice or recommend the right material.

It depends a bit on the colour; white or black isn't much of a problem. Red fades the worst in sunlight, so that's the colour where material choice makes the most difference, although bright red will always fade to pink eventually. Good quality red can generally last around 7-10 years now, whereas cheap materials will only last 2.

With vinyl, it's the sunlight that does the damage not the salt water.
The point I was trying to make was that exterior signs therefore have an arduous environment too - so signage / graphic design companies are just as good as boat name suppliers in this respect, probably better, because of the wide range of designs they deal with.

I've been doing vinyl graphics for a while but prefer to fit myself rather than post, but can send, I quite often do re touches so people can see what it will look like before they order.
