We need reupholstery done preferably in situ Cowes IOW. Recommended guy David Lutas has apparently retired. Google found a company with good website in east cowes but after initial contacts they are uncontactable, dont answer phone or emails.

1st Class Covers

I want to spend money, nobody is interested it seems. unless we book a stay on the mainland

Hi if the contract is valuable enough maybe a Portsmouth based co would be interested in opportunity ? I seem to recall when Westerly headlining came to be replaced the recommended supplier travelled over to do the job on the island so they do know how to catch the red funnel etc storms willing. Alternatively have you thought of looking on an owners website for suggestions?

Robin,
I am also intending to have my saloon re-upholstered this winter - on IoW. My oppo, who lives on the island, is dealing with the detail. He approached a couple of people before Christmas and was advised that, at that time, their business was busy with bulk post-season holiday caravan refits. He was asked to get back in touch after Xmas. They did confirm they would work with Agua material (recommended to me by well respected sail maker who has retired from the upholstery business).
However, my current priority is finding a gap in the winds to have the mast down and the standing rigging replaced so there has been no pressure to move on the upholstery issue. I'll ask my oppo for some contact info later today.
Cheers
Bob

Perhaps we hit the same issue, same company even. We know they are busy but eventually did visit after one no show, promising a price in a few days now many weeks ago and since then nothing, phone (mobile number) just cuts off as soon as it rings. we can wait but need to know if for a viable concern or not. We have no transport and ongoing other factors prevent relocation over to mainland.

Robin,
Here are the two firms my oppo started to make contact with; both 01983 numbers:-

MK1 Upholstery - 855 899
Shanklin Upholsterers - 404 838

The only background we have on them is that MK1 comes recommended for refurbs by a caravan site owner - that's a stationary-caravan site.

Good luck.
I'm hoping to progress my saloon in about 6 weeks time after the mast is sorted.
Cheers
Bob

From the Yacht Haven, head out the back entrance up the steep ramp where the cars come in, about 20ft back from the pavement to the road, they'll be a door on your right, usually a board up outside, Giacomelli or similar, one man band, in a tiny little place up to the roof with old furniture upholstery jobs. His name is Bill. I used him. Great job.

Thanks. We are at Island harbour and have no transport other than taxis, is there a contact telephone number?

THANKS TO ALL. I had approached 1st Class and Billy White came and measured mid Dec but have heard nowt since, phone calls seem blocked and emails ignored.

Thanks to this fantastic resource at least I have some more options to investigate. (y)

Robin, the weather has foiled my plans to deal with the standing rigging so I progressed my saloon upholstery. with the above company.
You are welcome to inspect the result at a mutually agreed day/time in East Cowes Marina if that would help. It has all been organised by my oppo so I haven't seen it yet but he is very pleased with it.
I ordered the Agua fabric on Thursday morning last week, it was delivered to the IoW on Friday and the upholsterers started work Monday and finished Thursday. I'm waiting for a dry day to move it all back on board (probably w/c 10th Feb).
Cheers

Thanks Bob,

We have been fully occupied having electronics upgraded and installed so upholstery was put o n hold but is next priority now. Not all of ours is simply removeable to recover and the island bed in our owners cabin needs a new memory foam topper shaped to fit the oval base, plus in the saloon a double seater lower helm seat needs recovering, existing one is leather imitation. I will ring around on Mondayto see what is possible. We live on board but have no transport and need 'them' to come to 'us'

UPDATE:_-

So 6 months on and post lockdown we struggled and failed to raise any interest from island companies, 2( 1st class canvas and Giacomelli) eventually came and looked but then disconnected their phones and ignored my emails. Shanklin upholstery said they would come look but were a total no show. Finally Cowes Canvas who had done some canvas repairs for us came up trumps, despite not normally doing internal upholstery. Today they fitted new cushions in bucara cloth in our saloon including a slide out double berth conversion and oh boy does it look good, brilliant stuff guys and fully deserving of maximum praise. they still have some more cushions to replace in the dining area and owners cabin but a simpler job and we can't wait for the transformation there too. :)

Further update.

As promised they arrived today with the new cushions for the dinette area seating all beautifully made too. We now await a new memory foam topper with fitted cover shaped to fit our owners cabin double, and a recover job on the lower helm seat we never use anyway. Every confidence all will be done both very well, on time and priced reasonably. My thanks guys for a job very well done, sadly a rare experience these days.:)
