having just relocated to Bradwell, where is a good place to fish nearby? On a swinging mooring in the Crouch we used to catch fish just off the boat but local advice as to what we'll get and and where to get them would be appreciated.

I am not a fishermen and I know nothing about fishing. However, there are often a lot of fishing boats around the barrier outside the power station

PS Will you now become Bradwell Bob?

As David says, a couple of hundred yards off the baffle seems popular as does the the Colne about half a mile or more out from Brightlingsea.

You did well to get into Bradwell - not many spaces. I'm on F pontoon. You will find the tidal restrictions are more than compensated by a good sailing river and easy get away up the coast or further.

My next door neighbour often goes fishing in Tollesbury leavings, and he always seems to get a good catch. He tells me a seal often goes there as well

We have also had a couple of good days fishing anchored at the Osea end of Bradwell Creek where the chart shows the creek coming back into the Blackwater, we have also had a couple of days sat there like nits and not caught a thing.

The angling boats in the Blackwater often seem to anchor uptide of one of the wrecks on the charts, and presumably drift their lines onto the wreck itself.

As said slightly NW of the baffle, there is a hole in the sea bed that was possibly something to do with the water intakes, that is a good spot. If you hunt around with the echo sounder you should find it as its fairly steep sided. The trick is to anchor on the up tide edge and bounce your bait into the hole. Never had much luck with squid, worm or frozen mackerel.

The 'Nass hole'. That's the one nothing to do with making the power station but presumably handy for the intake. Always been there! My chum was recommended to fish there and I had to take him there on his boat. Loads of fish according to the fish-o-meter ...... not a single bite for three or four days!

For what it is worth, I have fished a couple of times about 100 yards north of what is left of the Bradwell wall and caught whiting using squid.

Also tried trawling the wallet for mackerel a few times but got nowhere with this.

There are often boats fishing in the summer. Look where they are and copy them! We also have a couple of guys who use canoes and secure to vacant moorings at MSC, they seem to catch stuff. The locals fish off the beach there as well. There must be fish around as the seals have to eat something!
The local paper also does a column about fishing although it is usually about the charter boats.

I live on the beach at Wet Mersea, and I often see guys fishing from the beach in front of my house, but I can only ever recall once seeing anybody catch anything, and that was not recently

I didn't say they caught anything! Come to think of it I haven't seen them catch anything either but I know the guys in canoes do. I have also seen fish sheltering under the hull of my boat on its mooring.

You mean like this one several years ago at Levington?

Small boy to father on the dockside "Daddy, what is that fish doing under the boat?" "Son, it's just eating the weed on the hull".
Cue for a quick lift, jet-wash, and back in again before anyone else commented!
