We're off to N Ireland in a few weeks' time. Hopefully we should get to Ardglass, Bangor and Ballycastle. Any pointers to the best place for a pint of the black stuff - within walking (crawling) distance of the respective marinas?

In the absence of a reply from anyone else...

I only found two pubs in Ardglass. One near the harbour that had a heavy metal band on at the time and one further up the hill. At least it's downhill back to the marina.

There were quite a few just opposite the marina building at Bangor but I didn't try them.

Carlingford has a number of good pubs if you want to include that on your itinery.

The best pint of Guinness I've ever had in Northern Ireland is in the bar next door to the Harbour Inn at Portrush. You have to wait about ten minutes while they let it settle, top it up and so forth but it's worth it. The Harbour Inn, incidentally, is (or anyway, was) an excellent restaurant. I haven't been to N.I. for a while but we're making a land-based trip there (Fermanagh, then the N. Antrim coast) at the end of May so I'm itching to re-acquaint myself with the place, and its many fine hostelries /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

I rate the Crown in Belfast as one of the best but as its not on your itinerary I humbly put forward the Mauri in Ballycastle.
Its a ten minute walk from the marina, just off the main shopping street. There's a very good restaurant upstairs, or there was last year.
Named after the WW2 destroyer.

many thanks for the advice ... we intend to undertake some serious research and will report back to the forum following our trip!

Actually, now that I think of it, some of the best pours I've had have been at the Blackthorn Pub in Southie, but it's not exactly a place for the faint of heart...

I was in Ballycastle some time ago and remember 2 good places for drinking a guinnes or any other beer, the one was The Glenshesk or something like that, the other one was O'Connors Bar, but it was pretty crowded, heard from local people it's most popular bar in town.
