Hi
Does anyone know where in London/Richmond area I can get rid of a 18ft Boat?!

I am removing the engine from this boat so I can use it on a new RIB, but have no idea where to get rid of the boat! and I don't want to just leave it somewhere in the middle of the river so hopefully PLA will do something about it!

There is no trailer so I can't easily take it to the local tip, and I have even heard that they refuse large items like this sometimes....

Unless it is total carp, would a scout or seacadet group like it as a project ?

It is actually not too bad, I worked my A** off last summer refurbishing the cabin, had new cover on the walls, new cover for the cushions, seat etc.

But I am not sure when I am removing the engine, how much damage I may cause to the transom...

so where these seacadet groups are?!!!!

A very interesting post. I wonder how many more such boats will appear on the market due to the new lincesing rules. What happens to them if owners refuse to license?

BTW rr123, 40-0 next door is going cheap....

I was actually on the river today, there are so many abandoned boats, and it is quite obvious that the owner could not be bothered to do something about it!

All without engine, window, door, etc. They will remain there until they are sunk! and then somebody (PLA/EA) will have to come and spend too much time/money, resource to get rid of it!

In answer to your comment on new licensing rules, I believe if they find an unlicensed boat, they have the power to remove the boat and then they can either sell it or, if it is of little value, they may destroy it...so I believe this is exactly someone in my position is hoping for!

Simple, isn't it!!?

The new licensing regs are EA so will only apply if the boat is on EA waters. What powers the PLA or possibly a local authority have below Teddington, I know not, but there may well be powers to recover costs if they can identify the owner.

Much better to be responsible, as you appear to wish to be, and arrange disposal. A call to your local authority (Richmond?) may reveal other options.

There have been several incidents of boat dumping down on the estuary, mostly abandoned houseboats in terrible condition, the PLA can & do remove them if they are causing a problem, if where the boat comes from can be identified or its owner he will be billed for removal costs.

Who is the raft man?!

well, an update....

The council tip can not accept it! the nearest tip where I can take it to and they may accept is in Redhill! And they said if the material has asbestos (which I am sure it does) they can not accept it.

So, now I am here again! I may actually part/exchange it for the rib with the engine...if not I will advertise it HERE so if anyone thinks they need a cuddy cabin boat then come and it will be yours!

If you want to get rid of a boat remember it is YOUR responsibility to get rid of it, legally and safely.

Normally you will have to contact a commercial waste company to get rid of it.

Boats that are found to be abandoned are removed by the EA or the PLA at great cost, consequently they do go out of their way to find the previous owner to recover the costs.

Would the Richmond raft man have a use for it?

If you gave it to the Richmond Raft Man be careful as he is a wanted man for not paying mooring fees. If your boat turns up there you might end up with the bill unless you can prove he has taken on ownership.

Wanted man! Now I know who he is! I think I have bumped into him once when I was near Hammerton's ferry moooring the boat to go and get a coffee from the cafe nearby...

But to be honest, as a seller it's none of my business whether he pays the bill or not!

Anyhow, I think the best thing to do (the easiest!) is to part/exchange it.
