Hello,
I am sorry but I am not very good with these things and my question may sound to some people easy.
The hourmeter on my Volvo Penta MD2030D instrument panel does not work. I have bought a separate hourmeter (much more reliable) and would like to connect it. Could you tell where and how could I do this? I mean do I connect it somehere to the engine or is it possible to find the wires of the faulty hourmeter panel and connect it to them (I prefer the second option so I have it near the other instruments)?
Thanks

Looking at the connection diagram of your starter switch, you should be able to connect the +ve to the unused terminal 15a, or the used terminal that feeds your instruments 15b. You can pick up a -ve from the Alarm test/acknowledgment switch (the side with two wires on).

You can see the connection diagram here when you type in your engine number in the lower box. Then open up the operators manual, and go down to page 45.

I fitted one a long way from the engine panel, but close to the fuel gauge. Found a terminal on the fuel gauge that gave 12v when engine electrics switched on.

You can easily take a feed off from the alternator. I have forgotten which one it is, but one of the terminals only gives +12ve once the engine is running. This will give hours actually run, rather than those which show time panel is switched on.

If you want to connect into the instrument panel then the +ve and the -ve connections on the tacho will be a good place. It will run all the will the engine key switch is on.
