Where to buy plastic/nylon \'timber\'

I have a large open rope locker which currently has 4 plywood lids approx 18" x 18" and want to replace these with some form of plastic wood about 10mm thick. The ply lids are becoming badly knocked about.

Can't find a supplier anywhere. Anyone got any ideas?

Plastimo do something plastic/wood, I forget the name and if I recall it was quite expensive. Have a look in their catalogue.

Have a word with your friedly local sign company and see if they will sell you a sheet of Foamex. Contrary to the name it isn't foam, but a dense, lightweight plastic which can be drilled (slowly) planed and glued. I used it for some internal cabinets and to make up some locker shelves. Comes in a variety of thicknesses, including 100mm.
I also made a door for the lazarette and am waiting to see if it will be affected by UV.
Best of all, you might be able to get off-cuts cheap.

You could try some of the UPVC cladding products that are around. The size you want may be difficult.

I've used some for some internal fittings and it has proved to be excellent, though it is a little flexible. For my purposes rigidity wasn't a problem.

The glues they use are very strong.

There's usually a choice of white or white!

UVPC Cladding makes really good shelving, wipe down and keep clean. Maybe you could use them as boards.
