Where to buy antifouling

We have two chandlers by the boatyard where Magic has been of late (and where she'll go back for the winter is they stop taking the micky with Olly's other boat's brokerage). One is a large branch of Force4 and the other is Yachtmail. Both have a big web presence so we are indeed getting the best of oth worlds.

We've used both evenly throughout the work but frankly, Yachtmail have come up trumps every time. they're cheaper, the advice is better, they're freindlier and they're a four or five minute further walk each way.

Tigger is moored in Saltash (down the river from you) and works in Falmouth.

Brilliant Bum every year with Jotun. Are you sure you got the right one?

Half-tide mooring, mud de-activates most antifoulings.

I'm going to try Jotun Seaqueen which is supposed to last 3-5 years on ships!

However, I do think your description of the assistants in Force 4 and Marine Superstore is unjustified and unfair. I've always found them willing and as helpful as they can be.

+1

The guys at Force 4 in Deacons know their stuff. Several of them recognise me when I come in. I don't think they're either unfriendly or lacking knowledge of what they sell.

I too am on a drying berth; my first attempt with Seaqueen went on about a month ago.

Next time I dry out I'll let you know how it's looking :)

Actually, on the broader point of recomending chandlers, Jim and the guys at Harbour Chandlers at Emsworth YH are my all time favourites. They're good on price but the key is that they wont sell you whatn you dont need; good advice is free flowing and always spot on. Love them to bits. Sadly, Magic being on the Hamble, its a bit far to go for the odd tin of primer but I cant recoment them highly enough.

However, I do think your description of the assistants in Force 4 and Marine Superstore is unjustified and unfair. They just lack experience of the boating industry but that's not their fault. I expect they are quite low-paid, so as soon as they can they're off to a better-paid job (and who can blame them?) and then they are replaced by someone else with no experience.

OK fair point, but you take as you find.
The last time I went into Force4 in Poole, the two lads in there were more intent on placing a sign on their mates back that read "Free Ride, Just ask", to serve anybody.
I stand by Luke & James at Percy M. See though, they found me a Deep Sea seal on the internet for next day collection, & had an nengine bracket made to order.
The bigger point is, when you find a chandler who looks after you, support them, or you will have to use the chain-stores next year!
