And seals the charge air cooler stack on a TAMD61a. Not available from ASAP, repower marine or OG's very helpful local workshop, it is available from Volvo for 50 English pounds. Yup, £50.00...

I'm sure I could bodge it with sealant, or by cutting out some rubber disks or similar, but all I want to do is source either an original, or copy, for a slightly more acceptable sum than being asked by VP. Especially as I really want 4 of them at some point soon.

Any ideas?

Worth trying your local industrial bearing / seal supplier, take along the old one as a sample.
Companies like ERIKS or similar engineering supply companies would be my first port of call.

OG's local workshop had an incredible array of similar type seals, but nothing close enough. They were of the opinion that it would be a Volvo only item, which supports VP's comment below, so really just trying to find a supplier.

I’ve tried before , it’s a unique seal, let me have a look in the workshop for you .

Thanks Paul, much appreciated,

Chris,

Have you tried BSL , yes.... I know they do bearings but they do seals as well. Take one with you, they may be able to match. Used the one in Aylesford several times, including rebuilding my 270 drive when the taper bearing went. Always very helpful there.

As VP has commented it looks like a custom seal specifically extruded for this particular cooler on this particular engine.
Bit of a critical component and not the simplest to swap out if a cheap fix fails.
My thoughts would be to look over to the Colonies, where the locals have a habit of ensuring that VP bits are not sold at ransom prices mainly due to somebody producing a generic version .
This engine must surely be in use over there.
Have imported several bits and pieces from USA and even after shipping and taxes, worthwhile savings to be had.
Not the same subject but did need a 3 blade prop a short while ago. 20" X 26P. 1.5" shaft. Aquapoise type
All the UK suppliers quoted around £800 - £1000 + VAT. or worse .
Michigan Wheel quoted £450 - £550 + VAT landed ....inc Taxes.
Price difference was due to how fast you wanted your props.

Thanks all, I will try some alternative avenues again when I do the other side, but for now I just need it sorted before we go away for Xmas.
Did try sourcing from the states, it's something I've done before with SX props and also found it was slightly cheaper even after all the taxes were paid, but can't seem to find anything.
The aftermarket UK suppliers all seem to list very similar kits for the same engines, but nothing for the 306 for some reason.

Anyway, I called Keyparts earlier on, who were their usual very helpful selves, and ordered that seal plus the various other O rings and bolts that I needed/wanted for peace of mind. Not cheap, but half the quoted prices from earlier, and at least it will guarantee getting the boat ready for departure on Xmas eve as time is starting to get a bit short!

Re pictures not showing, they're copied from Google photo's which I don't think will show on apple products, maybe that's it?
