Right in one! We cycled round Foulness last Sunday (didn't take long!).

We chose last Sunday to walk the Broomway across Maplin Sands. Impressed by the number of bikes taking part in the ride.
As we were walking back towards the bridge, a nice man in a Qinetiq shirt told us that the only route off the island for members of the public was... back via the Broomway! With a rising tide...
He "offered us a lift" to the bridge, aka "escorted us off the premises".

Aha, I've been wanting to ask....I guess it's OK to drive to or across the bridge? I wondered if it was a restricted MoD area?

You can but only if you are visiting someone on the island. used to be easy when the George and Dragon was open as you could ring them up and they would put you down on the visitors book.

No. You can get to the guard's hut which is about a mile before the bridge
