hmm - unmistakeable eh.. guess the design was rolled out more than once /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
 
Don't know if design was intentional repeat, but I'd certainly recognise it as being Severn rather than QEII.

The design makes sense from engineering persective - rather than pure suspension bridge - v expensive for such a wide crossing, you make a normal pillar supported bridge structure for most of the way, then have the suspension part allowing water traffic underneath (quite high in both cases, as large vessels need to pass under)

Same design all over the world on wide crossings. Pure suspension crossing usually have high sides on either side of channel, making pillar supports more difficult. Start of a good thread on bridge pictures around the world? Did you see the pics I posted a while back of the new mega spectacular bridge in France?
