Where is my boat?

Think about a WESTERLY,31 I have one , it·s brilliant to sail and live on, lots of storage, space to relax, etc

check them out you will be surprised.

Where is your boat ?,,,,,, In the Meditereanean , waiting, near Barcelona.

Lots of variations on the W31 theme too, fin or twin, sloop or ketch & aft or centre cockpit. I have a twin keel, centre cockpit, ketch. Start at about 15k for the oldest (1972), least popular, worst equip'd versions. Go up to 25k for the latest, best equip'd & most wanted ones. Around 1,000 built so plenty around to choose from.

You have no doubt seen Bossy Boots on the Contessa site asking 15k.

The only cheap Contessas I have seen have been very sad though, as others have said better value elsewhere.

strange thread -

seller's expect 'cash' so it's generally irrelevant to a normal sale

being in the right place at the right time to complete a purchase is a completely different proposition - and has scope

generally people know what the underlying value of a standard condition item is (the function of the internet communication world) but they don't necessarily know what standard condition is!

just to make the post more constructive - I am in exactly the same position as the OP; but have £21k :) (but then again I want a Sigma 362...)

Travel is not a problem ............

Yoda

I took you at your word! But I concur about the colour.

I remember Graham Kerr (the 'Gallopin Gourmet') having a 72ft ketch built in the early 70s, and specifying 'rainbow' striped sails!!???

First bit of a blow and they ripped through the green stripe. Wonder if he was set up?

So if you know of a dirt cheap Sadler 32, Sigma 33 or possibly Contessa 32 (sub £20k) in need of some love let me know. Ta very much Yoda

Deacons at Busledon have (or at least had the last time I was there a few weeks ago) a Contessa 32. Asking price is slightly more than you suggest would be acceptable, but it's only an asking price and I think it's been there some time....!

Good luck with your search.

No commercial interest in this - i just keep my boat in the marina and it is for sale there. It was delivered recently. They have their Autumn boatshow this weekend, which usually has a great turnout, so suggest a visit beforehand that if interested.

Though the thought of buying a boat without seeing it horrifies me

It horrifies most people, but if you suss the seller out, it can work. It's exactly what I did with my current boat (from a mate of Yoda, as it happens). Bottom line was the survey was cheaper than my travel to the boat, and the vendor agreed to fix anything the surveyor found. In the event though, the surveyor gushed positively and found nothing at all.

The previous owner was a gem (even had her polished), and the handover was a bit like picking up a charter boat; nothing to do but sail off.

Edited to add, if a surveyor is in the area anyway, you might be able to get him to give the boat the once over for half an hour so to rule out a total dog.

Good to hear from you, glad it has worked out for you. You may remember my boat as I was next to Sirona, unfortunately you may well of read on here of her unfortunate demise earlier in the year. Trust you are enjoying sailing her.

Thank you, spotted that one yesterday and as always just need to find time to get over to see her. Organizing the lift out for 32 other boats is taking up my time at the moment.

In summer I saw a Sadler 32 on Windermere that looked like it could well have been abandoned (or simply run into the ground I guess). No for sale sign, but maybe being unloved could be dealable if an owner can be sourced. Maybe Mr L. Sailor knows it.

Bought a boat unseen, but then I knew it was in a state and would require much work. And I wasn't wrong. Still in the excited (but poor already) stage... Gulp.
