We have just returned from a fairly gentle cruise to the Baltic. I had been led to think that vast numbers of British boats were going there this year, so I expected to bump into a few. In the event, we met two Brits that we knew, one by pre-arrangement and one that we saw on the way in Norderney. Apart from these, we met One CA member on his way to a rally then no-one until we got back to Rendsberg, where most people pass and met two British boats. From then on, we saw no fellow-countrymen except two British boats based in Holland anyway. Coming back from Blankenberg yesterday, which was calm, we saw no sails at all, except one foreign yacht going south off the Galloper and a couple inshore on a fine Friday evening.
If I were Dutch, I would have been meeting my countrymen everywhere. Have the British given up sailing?
