Arrived at the marina office this afternoon one hour after noticing a delivery by Calor. Normally would ring before because they rarely have any in and the excuse is always poor delivery. Today, having seen the truck making a delivery, I thought I would be fine. Arrived to discover that they had already run out.

I was peeved.

is this just the Brighton area, or is it common in other areas?

We called into Brighton and they also didn't have any camping Gaz but we were given a cylinder of calor by a friendly local who didn't need it. I was seriously underimpressed by Brighton.

Not sure that it is entirely Brighton's fault, as other dealers in the area have the same problem with supplies of calor.

Hence my interest in whether it is just the local area or more widespread.

Maybe it's a Premier issue? Neither Brighton or Gosport had any earlier this month but the You Boat chandlery 100m from the Gosport office did.
A 907 cylinder cost £35. More expensive every year.

I’m told that dealers now have to order something like 50 bottles of 907’s to make an order, calor clearly don’t want to sell it in the uk.

yes. it is CG. I agree about the calor being cheaper. keep meaning to change my CG for another calor, but the B***ers wont do a cylinder exchange other than 4kg calor for 4kg propane.

That's nearly £13/kg. What a rip off, someone along the line is really price gouging that one. Disposable cylinders at Aldi are about a third of the price per kg of gas. If someone could come up with suitable connectors you could refill your 907 from disposables for about £12, & create a load of waste while you're at it. It's bonkers.

Always been the case with camping gaz. Trouble is most of us are stuck with gas lockers designed for 907's and are not comfy filling cylinders ourselves due to the risks involved. I use about 1 a season so just put up with it.

On the cruising circuit lots carry adapters, buy a local bottle then canter it into four 907 bottles ,
Prices depend where you can get them , in Greece refill anything from €7!to €12 Malta €10 to 12 , Tunisia €3 , Sicily €5 to 9 so far in Italy we not found any where to refill and they won't except our bottles as they no longer CG colour , thanks you Greece , although they clearly are CG bottle ICG on the top .
Hoping for more luck in France but I guess the costs will be more higher .
Last option will be buy a local big bottle and reg and store it on deck

You can go to some petrol stations in NZ, pop your bottle into a sealed see through cabinet, hook up the connector, tap your credit card-Paywave-and press go.

Locks the door, fills the bottle, opens door when full, costs 40 NZ Dollars-just over twenty quid-for 9 kilo's.

So, very cheap, accessable and inexpensive.

Unlike some parts of Europe.

We have a lot of paranoia about gas in this country. Vast areas of the world have no problems about refilling bottles, and I don't just mean 3rd world places.
A little common sense and half the obstacles of living can vanish, oh that would make a good tag line. There are all sorts of connectors on E bay I believe!

"problem with the supplier" and "no we don't know when we'll get any". Apparently the delivery the other day was only 2 cylinders. I've been trying to get hold of a 6Kg propane for over a month...

Try a non marine supplier.

Bilders merchant, caravan site/ caravan parts supplier.

Our local one is Didcot Calor and Paving.

First class outfit, always got what I need plus they carry all accessories and connectors, all at the right money.

" The right money " means cheaper than a marine supplier........................

Gosport still don't have any, but like you, I was able to get one from You Boat.

4.5kg Calor is £24 - works out a lot cheaper than camping gas.

Perhaps you're assuming everyone owns a car. Will it be cheaper once you've factored in the cost of a taxi?

OK I'll admit that your post prompted me to see where would be selling calor on a Sunday. Not wanting to seem a wuss I've just made the 5-ish km round trip to east brighton caravan park and now have a shiny new 6kg propane cylinder. Fortunately it was mostly down hill on the way back.

How much does an empty 6kg propane cylinder weigh? Hmm...think I need a shower now...

Edit...6kg propane is £25 which I think is about a quid less than I paid at the marina last time. Cash only. Dodgy lot these caravaners.

Homebase might be worth a look as well for some boats if the bottles fit and a trip to the nearest store for a refill is possible>

I've 2 x 10Kg which last about a year full time liveaboard. Might be a run around to find a local refill abroad or decant from a local bottle. 10Kg gas about 20E in Portugal at the local "we fill anything" place. SOCAl refill kit paid for itself with a trip to HSS when 907 bottles were £27 a pop!
