Years ago - you could buy a liquid that you poured into the abttery cells to give a new spark of life for a few months ..... if I remember right - it was claimed to remove the crud that builds up on the plates stopping them shorting out etc. I used it in my younger days and a few others I knew ... it did work ! But now I can't find any ......

Last time I saw any - my mate put it in his Bubble Car Battery !!!! After rebuilding the engine - which had shot its spark plugs into the base of the drivers seat !!!! But thats another story !!!!

Its called progression! It comes in little tablets now called BattAid (sic!) You can get them at most car shops and halfords. They look like denture cleaning tablets, same sort of tube, so I'm told, I still got my teeth. A good use for denture cleaning tabs, pop one in the cooling system, cleaned mine out a treat running it over the season!

OK, to hell with it. Unbolt it and we'll use it as an anchor!

Cheers ...... I used to revive old batts for a while after literally they had shorted a cell ..... kept my old bangers going for a while .....

I now want to revive a few LARGE ex boat batt's I have lying around ...... seems a shame to waste 'em !!

Try this

I used to do this from time to time and sometimes it worked. Fully charge the battery at a low rate. Tip out all the acid and sludge. Rinse with water, followed by EDTA. Leave the EDTA solution in for about 4 hours, then tip out, rinse with distilled water and refill with new acid. Recharge. You might succeed and nothing much to lose.

Re: bubble cars

Flat fronted job .... can't remember name. I know it had the big front door on it with the steering wheel that cranked out of the way to let you in.

Re: Try this

I used to use the fluid on batterys that actually failed to charge up properly ..... due to apparently buckled plates.

It seemed that a 'small gap could be made with this fluid ... well thats my interpretation - not being a Battery engineer !!

But the battery would then accept charge and was good for a few months before complete failure........

Means that a battery that no longer starts the engine could be used as back-up to the good domestic etc. without too much expense........ any amp/hrs extra must be good !!
