I have a Yamaha P45 2 hp which has given me sterling service for a number of years - I only use it about a dozen times a season for relatively short rubber duck runs. I gave it a service at the end of last season but this season, no spark at all! I have changed the plug, capacitor and points and have checked the continuity of the HT lead and the cut button but there is still absolutely no vestige of a spark. I would be very grateful if anyone can help before I give the b@s##~d a float test.

it's just possible that you made the same mistake as i did last time i changed a set of points. this was on a 60's car so may be totally irrelevant to you but there was a wire which connected from the moving half of the points to the coil. i had connected this the wrong side of an insulating washer so no current was passing through the points.
