My boat is double ended with a very fine, canoe stern with long overhang. Where should the name go? One side of the stern? Both sides? On the cabin coaming? Cockpit coaming? No stanchions or dodgers so that option is out.

Any thoughts?

Thank you

Graham

Where ever it looks right.

Any or all of them! As Lakesailor says, wherever you think it looks best. most Hillyards I have seen have a board on either quarter, but there are no rules (except in our club marina where the name must be visible from the pontoon walkway).

I have a double ender. Ashamed to say that the only place where her name has been written for the past few years is on the sail cover. Must do something about that. However, your boat's name does not need to be in big letters, because she sounds like the kind of boat that everyone will recognise anyway.

If she's Part 1 registered you need both name and port of registry at the stern. In practice this really has to mean both on both sides.

Suggest you make up two name boards, then you can take them off to paint or varnish, and move them around to suit yourself. I might even take my own advice this winter!

Ours has the name on boards port and stbd stern, previous double ender had name boards on coachroof coaming sides, and I have seen on smaller double enders a single name board across the aft transverse coakpit coaming but inboard.

Might depend how long the name is and whether you wish to add hailing port or a yacht club etc...............
