Ok, say you own a 40 ft boat and you find a space approx 80 ft long in a marina....Where do you moor?
At the end closest or furthest from the entrance?

How about in the middle?

I was asked to secure the boat to piles in Cowes on my Coastal Skipper exam. So I picked a reasonably big empty space and got on with briefing the crew to get on with it. As we approached the first pile the examiner, a very nice chap called Robin Sjoberg, very kindly pointed out that it wasn't a good idea to block the entrance to the (then) National Sailing Centre!
The mitigating circumstance was that it was dark - but I passed...

I'm sure you have walked down a high street seen a car parked like the boat and thought 'he could have done better' had you been there earlier you may have seen him reversing into the smallest of spaces. It's about seeing the full picture my friend

It is possible the pontoon was full of Etchels or similar in front of her (?) when she arrived and they have since been hoisted out?

OTOH, as some folks may have worked out we have a proper boat. And we often get surcharged because of our beam (22 feet). It really does piff me off that people who take up enough space for us to park don't get charged for the place we could have used....
